Year of the River: Dam removal projects in Washington
These dam removal projects are the largest in history and represent a turning point in the effort to restore free-flowing rivers for salmon, recreation and culture. This video is a beautiful and inspiring tribute to such a worthwhile effort.

Young Magic: Using geometic shapes and rattling coins to make you Melt
I stumbled onto Australia’s Young Magic when they opened for Youth Lagoon last November. Their stage set up (much like their sound) was very organic. Music, candlelight and incense enchanted us all. Their set was a short but amazing experience carried by transcendent drums and eerie vocals enveloped in smoke.
This performance translates beautifully to their full length release “Melt” (which is exactly what you’ll do when you listen to it). The use of non-traditional instruments like rattling coins, alarm clocks, water jugs and even cell phones play together with loops of synth and dreamy vocals. Together, all these elements resonate a montage of bliss.
I particularly recommend this album if you find yourself with some down time and creative urges. The sounds on Melt will lend themselves nicely to magnifying your inner creativity. Or maybe that’s just my inner hippie talking…
